Tips on Increase and Maintain hard disk space

Increase and Maintain hard disk space

*There are various ways to increase and maintain your hard disk space. Most people neglect the fact that they have to periodically organize and maintain the files on their hard disk making their hard disk full of junk files, broken shortcuts, invalid registries, viruses, temporary internet files, history files, fragmented files and other unnecessary files. It is very vital for a computer to be maintained and organized regularly to optimize and utilize it’s full potential making it’s lifespan much more longer. Remember it is better to prevent damage than replace it with a new one.

Tips:

1. organize your files in your hard disk regularly, removing all the unused and unnecessary files.

2. Try to find a PC Maintenance software, it would be easy for you to maintain your pc with it.

-If you don’t have any PC maintenance software available, then you can manually maintain your computer using the programs that comes with your operating system like the following:

*Disk Defragmenter – increases the speed of accessing and retrieving of data in the computer making the response time faster.

To access Disk Defragmenter:

1. From start menu click programs

2. Click accessories

3. Click system tools

4. Click Disk Defragmenter

*It is recommended that you defragment your hard disk even just once in a week.

*Disc cleanup – Remove files like, temporary internet files, downloaded setup files and recycle bin files.

To access Disk Clean up

1. From start menu click programs

2. Click accessories

3. Click system tools

4. Click Disk Clean up

3. Properly Uninstall unwanted programs – some people make a mistake by just deleting the files in the folder of a certain program, this is absolutely wrong because every program installed has its registry added to your computer and must be also removed together with the program itself.

To properly uninstall programs

1. Close the program you want to uninstall in case it’s active

2. If in classic view, from start menu click settings then control panel

-If not, from start menu click control panel

3. From control panel click add/remove programs

*It is recommended to always use this way to properly uninstall unwanted programs

4. Fix Registry Problems

There are many registry related softwares across the internet ready for you to download. Try searching google.

5. Always create a Restore Point

*After each major maintenance probably once a week I recommend you create a restore point in case something wrong happens to your system you’ll always have a fallback. Note: Restoring to an earlier state doesn’t affect the files on your computer, its just restoring your system configuration.

To access System Restore:

1. From start menu click programs

2. Click accessories

3. Click system tools

4. Click System Restore
